Owning people is wrong. Women around the world are treated brutally by men who own women, but call them wives. Even the less cruel examples of marriage are often a type of ownership. The legal system here treats it as a type of ownership, imo.
I'm all for the sanctity of the family unit though. It is vital. Beware those who seek to eliminate the family. That's just another form of slavery (north korea for example).
