Halo singleplayer?

I never hear anything about Halo's single player game. To read the various comments and reviews it's like Halo's a multiplayer-only game. So what's the word on it's single player game? Is it any good? Is it just another Unreal 2 super-linear follow the path and kill the bad guys kind of game or does it have some substance?
