Pot legalization seems like a good idea, but I have to admit it sounds a little too good to be true. While I have no concrete evidence or even logical speculation, my gut tells me the legalization of pot has an equal chance of being great or leading to terribly bad, unforeseen problems. Maybe it's because in this area I'm as straight laced as they come, having never tried anything. My drugs of choice have been alcohol and caffeine. I just hope people smarter than me think it through carefully...

Well since you already admit to being an alcohol user, you can conceptualize it this way. Think of the roaring twenties and thirties and all the booze smugling gangsters of the day such as the infamous Al Capone. Legalizing booze brought down the gangs or at least forced them to shift to other illegal ventures it allowed the government to get a grip on a huge problem. It also created a booming and vibrant (taxble) industry.

There is the public health argument, but its very hypocritical to argue about publich health issues when we have a much worse drug which is perfectly legal in most countries of the world today (alcohol).
