If you must have speakers, get some nice bookshelf speakers and an amp. If you want some PC specific brand then a lot of people swear by AudioEngine speakers.
Headphones don't give subwoofer bass to shake the whole room.

I currently have a Logitech Z-2300 speakers (2.1 setup and analog). It's decent, but not good as my former Klipsch ProMedia v.2-400 (its subwoofer's bass stopped working with lots of rattlings). My onboard audio suck and don't give enough bass like my SB Audigy 2ZS PCI sound card.
