Underestimated? I thought they were counting on that, thus the complete shit drops you would get. Thus why your characters performance was so closely tied to equipment. Maybe they've improved those aspects since I last played a month or so after release, but equipment farming was terrible.
It's hilariously sad that they're trying to fess up to a mistake, but still shifting the blame on the user base. That's the bullshit bit, the heavy reliance on the AH was by design, they wanted that RMAH cash.
I re-ran content in D3 way more than I ever did in D2 for the sake of getting equipment. I don't mind a grind, but the rewards were so few and far between it wasn't worth it.
