The same day as Sandy Hook, there was crazy guy in China who attacked a preschool. Since he didn't have access to a gun, he used a knife. 20 people injured, but no one died. Certainly we can agree that these things aren't the same and shouldn't be treated equally.
I really don't like the "we might as well ban sharp objects" argument specifically every time it gets thrown into a discussion like this.
I just wish there was some gigantic list of arguments that we can refer to. "Sorry, that has already been covered in the societally accepted GLoA article 152:A item 13 - false equivalency." Maybe we would actually get something done besides rehash the same nonsense debates ad-infinitum every time a class full of 5 year olds gets gunned down. I think sites like snopes and politifact are as close to that as we'll ever get and people even question those as being biased.
I feel like certain lobbyist groups would be out of business in one or two election cycles if we could just stop the spread of misinformation and nonsense debate points. Except that I'm sure they would pay a lot of money to have a hand in writing the list. And thus fox news was born...
