I think its similar to how they gave away earbuds for mac logins when they first released that client. Easy enough to do it without changing your current OS, give a live USB drive a try, or install the free virtual box and setup a virtual linux install. The "Win8 thing" which is a joke to begin with, is what motivated them to actually finish something for a change.
