I know its easy to rag on but I thought the shaped face buttons were innovative. I still occasionally have to glance down to see which color button is where on a gamepad, with the Gamecube pad you could tell simply by touch. The SNES pad sorta had that too with some buttons being concave and some convex. I also liked its triggers with the secondary click at the bottom. Combine the 360 controllers physical dimensions and layout with the Gamecube face buttons and triggers and the PS3's d-pad and we'd have the ultimate controller. Imo.
I always thought the Wavebird was the best controller ever designed, so comfortable and perfect form function.
