And Ars says that the pre-rendered cut scenes seem like they're from an older version of the game, meaning they look worse, not better than, the game itself.
I'm still thinking this is a game that had production either stop or mostly slow down for years, then resumed right where it left off, but with limited resources, so that they just polished what was now a 5 year old turd rather than start anew. Right down to reusing the cut scenes they'd made previously.
