From a longevity standpoint it would be better for EA to include an offline mode so they can continue sales long down the road. They really don't care much about that. They care more about short term sales and short term piracy rates, and getting more control over how you are using their games. They don't want people modding or anything, because that might decrease sales of whatever microtransactions/DLC they plan to do. The social aspect is more a convenient excuse to impose control, but they'd be fine if it went crazy viral and sold a ton.
Back catalog sales are fine, but even better to EA is pushing someone into the next sequel. |
