I'd be very weary of increased CPU clock speed if I was MS or Sony. Because they'll have likely already gotten their first deliveries of CPUs, specc'ed for 1.6 Ghz (or whatever), and the last thing especially MS wants is another RRoD fiasco due to overclocking their CPU.

And sure, you can go to market later with a more powerful machine, Sony, but unless your more powerful machine is also cheaper, it's not really going to make a difference. I would have figured your PS3 launch would have explained that to you?
