If they're launching this year how much tweaking could MS even hope to achieve if Sony shows their cards? This was my immediate thought when I read this just now. From the article:
"Why go first when your competitors can look at your specifications and come up with something better?" <Sony boss Kaz Hirai> stated. Stupid. Don't devs need to know approximate specs 2 years in advance to have games ready at launch? So launching 6 months early shouldn't make much difference. Also, as the Wii amply demonstrated, it's more about the games and interface than the power of the hardware these days. The Wii collapsed and isn't a good sign of success so much as a cautionary tale and possibly a one-off. The WiiU isn't quite following in its footsteps, though we'll have to wait until these launch to really have a comparison.
But no, devs need to know a ballpark, not exact hardware. If that ballpark grows larger fantastic. If it shrinks a bit, not a big deal. It isn't like launch titles can fully take advantage of the hardware, anyway. |
