No worries. I don't really even care about the gun thing, but I do think Obama asking the CDC to do research into this is a good move. First off, the CDC has no stake in this, so I think we can count on them to perform an unbiased study. Second, I think the CDC will do a good job, as they're a highly scientific outfit.
Once they get a result, it'll be a result that hopefully everyone can then use to guide future discussions/rage-fests/hopeless complaints, rather than the umpteen different researches done by hopelessly biased or just-plain-poor outfits done so far.
The only downside I can see is that the CDC is likely going to take years to come up with an answer.
