That is a hard policy to enforce if your past doesn't leave a trail that can be downloaded from online. I don't think there was a single teacher (pre-college) that I considered a good role model to me. I respected a good number of them, but none stood out to me as "I want to be like them". Especially the drunks or the male teachers that were a little too friendly with the female high-school students.
I think that is just the nature of the profession though as people are super defensive about their children and you need to be able to command respect from the students. If you are going to be a teacher, make sure your slate is clean or your skeleton closet has some good reinforced hinges.
