It's all real simple. People do not spend thousands of hours and their and their family's well being just so you can play video games in your free time. They do it so they have income and can pay their bills. There's no real excuse for piracy. There seems to be an air of "entitlement" in the gaming community. "Well, the game wasn't that good, so I'm entitled to it for free." No, no you're not. You aren't entitled to anything. If video games are too expensive for you, find a new hobby.

You're kind of preaching to the choir here. Few here support the model of "pirate now, buy later if I like it (or never)." But unfortunately, piracy is a fact of life. EVERY DRM system has been bypassed. Every. Single. One. The way to combat it is through education and making your game accessible.

Steam has probably been the single greatest reducer of PC game piracy by making the games cheap, convenient, and easy to access. Why bother with Bittorrent when I can have Steam's massive, clean bandwidth available to me for $5 or $10 per game (more if I buy at launch) and have all my friends and family available for multiplayer at a button click?
