Volume location and identification is one of the most fundamental things about an OS install, any OS, and how a bare drive is addressed. Not knowing that, regardless of options presented, is stupid. Especially from a "reviewer" who throws his bona fides out at the beginning of the article in an attempt to establish credibility.
If you want to pander to, and defend, idiots who want to treat their machines like toasters, that's fine. But don't try to pretend that a lack of knowledge is an acceptable default state. It's akin to saying "But I didn't know my car needed to have the oil changed!" You'd call anyone who said that an idiot and this guy is no different.
