There's a reason that MacOS, KDE, Gnome, etc all use a similar style of desktop as Windows, and that's because it's an efficient one for humans to use. That doesn't mean something better can't come along - but "Metro" is definitely not it. after two decades i would offer that perhaps this old scheme seems to be ideally efficient due to simple, ubiquitous familiarity, not some inherent intuitive value.
