I played EQ. It wasn't fun. WoW was fun for a while (never more than 2 months at a time apparently though according to my subscription history). They changed a *lot* of tropes for MMOs, at the time for the better, and they succeeded because of it.

Now, within Blizzard DNA, the original WoW felt basically like Diablo 3 online, with all the ripping off that they did from Diablo 2 with skills and the skill trees.
