it might help reinvigorate the idea of exploring space, since it seems obvious that this is vital to the long-term survival of humanity. Heh, you have a pretty long view. Given that the sun has five billion or so years of fuel left, we have a while to get off this rock, as long as we manage our resources here (which we're not doing a very good job of doing actually). But we have to manager them right to get a viable population into space anyway, so either way we need to manage things on Earth better.
Also, I thought they already renamed Columbus Day to Discovery Day? Explorers Day is more encompassing I'll admit, but isn't it already renamed something generic? |
