1. Homeland Security 'fusion' centers spy on citizens, produce 'shoddy' work, report says. Oct 8, 2012, 15:23 LittleMe
"The Department opted not to inform Congress or the public of serious problems plaguing its fusion centers and broader intelligence efforts. When this subcommittee requested documents that would help it identify these issues, the department initially resisted turning them over, arguing that they were protected by privilege, too sensitive to share, were protected by confidentiality agreements, or did not exist at all."

Duh! Reminds me of the speech JF Kennedy gave as a warning, and I quote:

"The dangers of excessive and unwarranted concealment of pertinent facts, far outweighed the dangers which are cited to justify it. .... There is little value in ensuring the survival of our nation if our traditions do not survive with it. And there is very grave danger that an announced need for security will be seized upon by those anxious to expand its meaning, to the very limits of official censorship and concealment. ... Its preparations are concealed, not published, its mistakes are buried, not headlined. Its dissenters are silenced, not praised. No expenditure is questioned, no rumor is printed, no secret is revealed."
