Yeah, yeah, poor Curt Schilling. He still has a job at ESPN, which undoubtedly pays him an easy 100K, to sit and talk on TV for a few hours a night.

It's not as if the guy's gonna be on foodstamps for the rest of his life.

It's all relative. Him going back to what we would consider a generous salary is the equivalent to us ending up in a homeless shelter. Just think about what that would do to you and your family psychologically.

Yeah, it's really in no way, shape or form the same thing. It's not as if the Schilling family still has to pay a mortgage on their home, so the 100K in salary is easily paying for all bills and a fairly generous lifestyle. Then he sells some of his memorabilia, writes a book, and bam, there are the millions again.

The guy isn't bankrupt.

Creston

They probably do have to pay mortgage on their home. Look at how many celebrities are in foreclosure - they still rarely buy via cash.

So long as the home isn't under water, though, he can probably sell what I assume is some giant home and move into something more reasonable.

Schilling, by most accounts, lost almost all of his savings. And his dream. As others mentioned, though, he can still get a cushy ESPN job and can likely find his way back into baseball if he wants. He won't be a millionaire, or at least a multimillionaire, but he'll be comfortable.
He reached for his dream, overextended, crashed, but has a nice mattress to cushion that landing. Yeah, it sucks, but it's from his own doing and, though life changing, it isn't life ruining.
