And, PC rentals would be great, but why should streaming be the only way to accomplish it? There are plenty of DRM schemes that require an always online connection, they could make a full installable client that is only authorized to work during the rental period. That would be the only application that could justify always online DRM in a single player game.

Because I don't want to download 30GB of Max Payne 3 to be able to play it for thirty minutes. The whole point of streaming is that games are INSTANTLY playable. If all I want to do is demo a game it'd take far more bandwidth to download a client than to stream it for a short while.

And publishers would never allow rentals otherwise, as it makes piracy even easier.
Streaming destroys piracy, and used sales, hence the attraction. Hence why we'll one day be on it. Again, could be 5 years, could be 50, but it's where we're going.

Just an FYI Gamefly offers PC rentals that as far as I know aren't streaming.

You're not by chance related to Pachter are you?

Actually, Gamefly does not offer PC rentals.

So, you're wrong. In any case, the publishers wouldn't have any say in this. Why? Same reason that publishers have no say in Redbox. Ever read how Redbox gets most of their films? They buy them from Walmart, because publishers refuse to sell to them. Gamefly could do the same thing, because it's the physical disc, not the code.

See that difference there?

Score Ms. Moneybags!

Really? What's this then dipshit?
