Slight correction: only Monkey Island was licensed by LucasArts. The rights to Sam & Max have always been owned by Steve Purcell, who had in turn given LucasArts a long-term exclusive license. That license expired in 2005, at which point Steve then licensed Sam & Max to Telltale.
