Brandon Sanderson is an awesome writer, and I especially love how logical and ordered his systems for "magic" are in his books. Even in his finishing The Wheel of Time, you can read him explain the how behind what characters are doing, as opposed to Jordan's "he waved his hand and this happened".
BUT, I've noticed that it seems he just cannot write a genuinely stupid character. It's a minor thing, but some of the supposedly most uneducated characters in his series seem to pontificate far too much. For that matter, most of his characters seem to give off the same feel in how they talk and act, and it's only their differing circumstances that seem to set them apart, rather than personality. In this, I think Jordan was superior. His characters had a lot more life to them, I think.
Also, he was putting those books out at a rate of one a year, until that whole "dying" thing. I'd have a hard time accusing someone of "dicking around" in the face of that, especially when the first seven books were out in six years. Seems like he was moving at a pretty good clip, if you ask me. |
