At the very least just make it a console rental or wait till it hits the bargain bin. The reason this has caused such an uproar is that it includes a Prothean character. If it was just some faceless new human nobody would give a shit, but it's a Prothean. A supposedly extinct race that is central to the story of ME1 and heavily involved in ME2. Because of that, people consider it an integral part of the story and thus a character that SHOULD have been in the regular game.
