Even though T2 had much better graphics (16-bit textures vs 8-bit) and many other improvements, I always thought T1 was better. The devs said they added a lot more action elements, like undead, to the first one because they didn't think such a stealth-focused game could be successful without a broader appeal. I missed those elements in T2, though many disagree with me. Return to the Cathedral: The one where you navigate the ruins of the old city crawling with undead, burricks and spiders. Has to be my all time favorite level of any game ever. The atmosphere of that place was sublime. I couldn't agree with you more - on all counts. Your comments on 'Return to the Cathedral' brought back some good flashbacks there; that has to be the best in so many aspects......
In regards to T2, I did apply the NTEX high-res texture pack prior to my recent replay, which bumps up the game's visuals even further. Dated to today's standards, but still a good texture pack.
