Maybe its because Ive never lived in the States, but some what you guys wrote here (concerning politics) is very very skewed towards a very weird way of thinking and looking at things, thats gotta be "American". Sorry I dont know how else to put it. I guess it comes from being raised by the baby boomer generation who used to live in constant fear of the Ruskies and the Bomb.
You guys seem to have two very unrational fears: First of all Communism. Well the old style (fail) totalitarian communism is pretty much dead. The Chinese really dont count, since they basically run their country as a HUGE CORPORATION, the government is basically upper management and membership in the Party is basically akin to lower management. Here's a heads up. China will soon become the World's No. 1 economy. Why? Because its playing by the rules of "western" freemarket capitalism. China has the worlds fastest growing middle class.
So what exactly is it that you fear?
Second of all you have an irrational fear that government, your own elected government, will somehow become a totalitarian monster if it starts to implement stricter controls with regards to monetary politics and how corporations run their business.
Please type "Corporate Psychopathy" in google and look up the first link. You will probably disagree with a lot of what is said there but there are good examples of countries that do really well without applying the "Ayn Rand" principle of ruthless Capitalism that americans admire so much....
A lot of what was said here is very intelligent, but its burdened by unnatural and irrational fears of "boogeymen" that simply dont exist.
