So who makes sure eveyrthing keeps running at Valve without any formal boundaries? Who decides on the sales? Bill from accounting figures he wants to work in the server room that week so decides to give it a go? Dave from QA decides what goes on sale on Steam when and for how long? Ed the attorney decides he's going to ignore all the legal matters and take a stab at coding for a while. So that's how it works? Why do they even bother hiring for specific positions if thats the case? Seriously bud, there's autonomy and than there's chaos. Human beings by their nature need boundaries. We create them where we see none. NO company, not a single one could operate the way Gabe makes it sound and ever get anything done.

I assumed Gabe was talking specifically about developers, artists, writers, etc. People that actually work on the games not run the business.
