It was a promotion.
With no coupon in the box, how many people would be likely to take that box home and try it? What reason would they have?
With the coupon in the box, would people have given it a try? It would be a minimal cost way for them to try out the service.
That aside, who the hell is Lamestop to arbitrarily open up the box and decide what the end user - the person that pays for that box and is going to go home and play it/smash it/frame it/whatever - gets to keep or not? Or is this a continution of opened "new" games and "used" games that are only a few dollars than a "new" game? I think OnLive is insufficient, but they can try all they want.
