No offline play under any circumstances is completely unacceptable. Steam offers a decent model: It "updates automatically." Everything's "automatically there." But you can still play offline if you need (or want) to. Blizzard's blowing it by forcing its customers to be always connected. No go on Diablo III unless they change their position.
