Phones replacing handhelds? Sure, I can see that as a possibility. Eliminating the need for consoles, though? How are you going to control the games? With digital distribution becoming key, where are you going to store them? What network are you going to connect to? With no standards for design, what device are you going to make the software for? None of the groundwork is in place for this to happen in the near future.
10-20 years from now, well, maybe. Right now there's no reason at all to think that the next generation doesn't even need to exist because phones will take over that market, even if somehow production of a phone that was a viable gaming machine replacement could be done in a cheaper and better way than the next generation of consoles. |
