It wouldn't surprise me if they wanted out of the hardware business.
Maybe Microsoft intends to surprise the world and be the first to leave consoles behind. Put their full weight behind Windows 8 as a platform for browsing and search, streaming music and video, casual/mobile and PC gaming.
As most have acknowledged, PC as a gaming platform is on the rise thanks to "apps" and Steam. Since the majority of AAA titles are ported to PC anyway, why not drop the costly hardware altogether and recommit to PC gaming.
If not, at least their next console will have Windows 8/9 right? |
