From the stand point of protecting the public it makes sense that you get a record of what a company is grossing and how on a regular basis to compare it their tax filings.

Uh protecting the public? Let's get off the soap box for a moment. Valve is a privately held company and already has file to corporation returns with the government anyway. The public doesn't need to be protected from anything and we have no legal right to see it, that resides with the IRS. I want to see this info as much as anyone but arguing that it's somehow a right is totally incorrect.
