9. Question regarding BS auctions Dec 31, 2002, 12:09 c r i s p y

OK, here's a question that's occured to me on more than one occasion:

Obviously, no one in thier right mind actually intends to pay $6100 for a videogame cabinet made out of snow, so what happens on Ebay when a buyer defaults on payment? Is there any kind of mechanism in place to prevent them from bidding on other auctions?

I have also seen cases where a seller lists something (ususally a no-reserve item) and there is a single, overly-inflated bid on the item which I suspect is made by the seller himself. Is there anything to stop a seller from bidding on his/her own auctions, simply to run up the price?

Thanks in advance.
