This kind of shit also happened in Japan with Modern Warfare 2.

People bought US/UK/Asia copies of MW2 from retailers but couldn't (can't, even now) get through activation.

There has been games like Mafia 2 and Civilizations V, which require Steam authentication and also cannot buy from Steam-JP, but you could play all of them just fine if you get the package version and use its CD-key for registering it to your Steam account. So it's somewhat unique with MW2.

As a result, our PC community was thrown into an uproar (the poor, late localized version didn't help), and those retailers had to refund their customers for those "invalid" versions of MW2.

From the looks of it, It's MW2 all over again for us
