InBlack wrote on Sep 20, 2010, 09:07: I realise that Interplay was the publisher and Black Isle Studios the developer. But last I head quite a few guys who worked on F1 and 2 from Black Isle Studios currently working on this MMO?? Or do I have some wrong info... Then why are you wondering about the dislike for interplay? They essentially did their best to kill off fallout, and the company as a whole went down the tubes years before they went bankrupt.
As for fallout MMO, I think you are remembering an interview: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fallout_Online
The idea of a Fallout MMO was originally pitched within Interplay while Brian Fargo was still with the company. In an interview with Feargus Urquhart, it was revealed Fargo wanted Black Isle Studios to create the MMO. But just because he wanted it, doesn't mean it happened. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Black_Isle_Studios
In 1998, several key members responsible for the division's first title, Fallout, left Interplay to form Troika Games after they "were unable to come to an agreement with Interplay as to how [their] next team should be structured".[5] On December 8, 2003, in the midst of serious financial difficulties, Interplay laid off the entire Black Isle Studios staff.[6] By then, most members had moved on to found a new company called Obsidian Entertainment (2003–present). Interplay laid off the whole staff, and notice that that happened just before the release of fallout: brotherhood of steel. Basically interplay said "screw you guys, here's your pink slip, oh and BTW, we are gonna finish up developing that FO:BOS game and publish it right after we fire you"
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Obsidian_Entertainment Obsidian are developing Fallout: New Vegas for Bethesda. So we may see some return to classic FO series inspiration and storytelling in that game.
BTW, if you want to see where the rest of the fallout staff ended up, here's a link with the FO1 credits, you can click on each name and it says where they are: http://www.mobygames.com/game/windows/fallout/credits There's stuff on wiki about them too.
Edit: http://fallout.wikia.com/wiki/Fallout_Online Looks like two fallout people from BIS ended up at interplay in the last couple years. However, I still have my doubts as to the quality of the game since interplay is in charge. I wonder why they'd come back to a company that fired them, perhaps some serious stock options.
Edit 2: http://fallout.wikia.com/wiki/Interplay_Entertainment There's some history about interplay. I remember Caen having screwed stuff up, but I didn't remember that the french did a takeover by buying majority and forced Brian Fargo out and put their own guy (Caen) in charge.
