I think a lot of pirates are just spoiled brats ignorant of the repercussions, so yes, I do think some of them were so eager they just bought the game. Maybe on console, maybe on PC, but it works for Ubisoft either way. Companies have said for years now that stopping early piracy increases sales... that is all this DRM was meant to do.
