That being said - the vanilla gameplay is shit (units and ships move too fast, musketry's too deadly, generals die to spies not in battle during the long campaigns, etc.) so mod, mod, MOD the game for a decent experience. There's been some pretty good combat mods so far. Sad to hear that. Another Total War game I'll be skipping.
I remember playing the demo for the last Total War game... I had been waiting for an age of sail tactical game for ages. I jump into the naval battles and was pretty turned off. It kept preaching that the naval battles needed historical strategy to win, but I never *could* win using historical strategy. Christ, I even went back and used *the* historical strategy used to win and it still didn't help.
I uninstalled the demo after on particular attempt where I was boarding a ship that was nearly sinking and the crew nearly decimated so I could capture her. Somehow my ship ended up striking her colors instead. I guess when you're outnumbered 4 to 1 you have the advantage??? |
