but then as we got closer, the Xbox group took it over more and more. And they have things where, oh, if you want to use Games for Windows Live to update your game, you have to go through [their] certification. And if you do it more than X number of times, you have to pay money. It's like, "My friends, you can't do that on the PC." Not to be a member of the tin foil hat brigade, but I think that's what MS wants. Ultimately, their goal is for every PC Gamer to break down and buy an Xbox. Combine this little tidbit here that Wardell revealed with the fact that they do their best to get timed exclusives and "favoring" during the porting process and you can see how little they care for the PC platform. Frankly, I'm shocked we even got Mass Effect 1 at all.
The European game designers seem to be immune to this, for the most part. Lots of great, original games coming out for the PC from them. You have Call of Pripyat, Ego Draconis, and Risen all coming out before the end of the year and they're the only PC-first (Or in Pripyat's case, the PC only) games I'm buying. |
