What publishers fail to realize is that the used games market provides access to many titles that are no longer available. Games rarely go "unavailable" during the life of a console. Nearly every game made for this generation is available on Amazon. If it's not there's likely very good reason for it.
Used games have no benefit alright, but only to the publishers of the games. To consumers and retailers, used games have a tremendous benefit! Consumers can trade or sell games they no longer wish to own for games they would like to own. Retailers provide a market for this activity. But GameStop kills this, too. Sellers will get more money on ebay. Buyers will get lower prices. Yet idiots still go to GameStop. If used games weren't dominated by a major corporation you wouldn't see this issue constantly coming up. If they were just sold from individual to individual you wouldn't see this coming up. The industry resents this because GameStop is such a behemoth that really offers benefits to no one other than itself. |
