The one-star Spore rating crusade on Amazon, instead of sending a message to EA that gamers are tired of being treated like criminals, probably just pushed them further to avoiding PC releases more in the future. I can't agree with you there. The vocal minority has definitely made an impact against DRM. EA was originally planning on having online authentication checks every 10 days for Spore and Mass Effect. The vocal minority complained and EA cut that idea. Then the vocal minority complained about having only 3 activations so EA extended it to 5. Then the vocal minority complained about not being able to revoke activations so EA created the revoke tool. The vocal minority complained about the DRM in Far Cry 2 and then Ubisoft completely removed it from Prince of Persia, EndWar, HAWX and Call of Juarez: Bound in Blood. The vocal minority complained about Starforce and now it's dead.
The vocal minority can make a difference. They just have to make sure people hear them. |
