All of the 'beta key' rubbish is entirely an exercise in artificial scarcity, and has nothing to do with improvement of the product. I find it amusing that they've both invented the artificial scarcity and then gone on to invent a paid method of getting around it, which also happens to invalidate the spin regarding the 'quality' hosting they were putting out only a week or two ago.
Its only ever going to be an 'ok' game, half of the code and assets are cut-and-pasted out of a game many of us already own, and this whole process is textbook smoke and mirrors.
The worst thing is the extensive beta makes the uninformed think that its probably unstable.
