| The reason WSAD is popular is that it makes the larger side keys, which are usually mapped to vital movement functions, more easily accessible. ESDF, while potentially better for hardcore games and gamers, means you have to reach for Ctrl and Shift, and Alt is underneath your palm. With WSAD, Alt and Space fall just to either side of most people's thumb, while your pinky rests between Shift and Ctrl. This makes the most frequently used keys obvious and unmissable, and that's good as they require you to press them quickly and accurately in combat. Most of the rest of the functions don't need to be pressed right away, and if you have to glance down at your keyboard, it's unlikely you'll die because of it. This isn't to say that one or the other is necessarily better, just that WSAD does have its advantages. |
