This is true and is an unfortunate side-effect of retailers trying to sell Blu-rays at $25 - $35 per title. They are the one's effectively killing the format with their greed. Retailers have always had higher prices on things like DVD's. Online outlets have always had lower prices. There doesn't seem to be anything going on at the retail side that is hurting HD sales.
The people who produce the movies on HD simply want a higher price point. If they only offer these movies to the retailers at $20+ the retailers won't stock them at all if they can only sell them at $20.
I don't know what they charge for HD units but judging by the price in the store I'd guess $18-$22 per. Anyone work in a store that orders these and would know what price they are coming in at? I'd be curious to know... |
