For example, GfW requires only that your game support the 360 gamepad. Got a different gamepad? Sucks for you.
I see your point, but I couldn't care less about gamepads. I haven't found the need to use a gamepad for about 10 years now, and I doubt that will change anytime soon. I play a fair amount of platformers too - I played the last two Tomb Raiders and all the LEGO games by Traveler's Tales (among others), and I played them all with keyboard and mouse (keyboard only in the case of the LEGO games) just fine. The only time I ever use a gamepad is to play the LEGO games in co-op, which I don't do very often.

It probably helps that I don't play games with poor mouse/keyboard controls.

In any case, a lot of gamepads (your Logitech should be included) let you program the controls outside of the game, so that will work even if the game doesn't support the gamepad. I'm not sure how well that would work with analog sticks, but for buttons and d-pads it works fine.

Some people think certain gametypes need gamepads (that may be true for genres that are essentially console-only, like fighting games), but I disagree. If space sims like X3 and Freespace 2 can be played perfectly fine with a mouse, why can't games that traditionally use the gamepad?
