Even stranger is that early access to the demo gives people who preordered from Gamestop an extra week to decide they don't like the game and cancel the preorder (assuming you can cancel after you redeem the access code). It seems like a strange move for Gamestop to make. I think this is a strategy to get more people to pre-order the game. Not to reward people who have already ordered it or cancel orders. Have you noticed that almost every game lately has pre-order boxes on the shelf in retail stores and pre-orders in general are pushed as if they were real sales?
Pre-orders are an easy way to maximize profit on release day, instead of buying 50 copies for every store, you order 5 copies, and the pre-order copies and you minimize overstocking the game. That way if a game is a huge success or an epic failure they only have 5 copies left after selling the ones they pre-ordered.
These numbers are used to determine how many copies they will buy. It's that simple. Has nothing to do with showing the quality of the game to gamers. It's about sales. And selling a game has nothing to do with showing it to gamers. They want your cash money, and if you say you'll give it to them for a copy of this game, they will make every attempt to get your money.
