wildone, yeah that's one reason I still love playing Quake1 netquake. Its the last FPS game I know of that doesn't use predictive net code. You never, ever, see someone else jerk from their own lag.
I still want to punch John Carmack for coming up with the idea of client-side prediction. I'm sure someone else would have done it, but still, he started the whole fiasco.
That said, some games have done it reasonably well. What is ironic is now that broadband is so widely available, predictive net code just isn't needed. So while in 1996 a fantastic online game that actually did need predictive code didn't have it, now games that don't need it, use it badly.
