Most MMOs allow you to summon pets. Not much difference there, the Capt and his away team = a necro and his minions. I certainly wouldn't go calling foul on that point. I also imagine the planets would be instanced and would not be in the same engine/map as space. Your ship would be only a SHIP in space. Your crew etc. would simply be data in a database. No worries of collision detection/AI for virtually non existant things such as crew in space.
