I've had a DVD in my machine for so long I cant remember when I made the transition (sometime in the mid 90's?) and it's only for the last year or two that games have been routinely released on the format. Do you live in the US by any chance? In Europe games have been released DVD only for at least four years (UT2004) and DVD versions have been about since Baldur's Gate 2 back in 2000. For some reason the US was very stubborn when it came to moving onto DVD exclusively. I certainly hope we'll see Blu-ray arrive within a couple of years for large programs, at least as an option, because I already have software coming on 35 DL-DVDs and it is pretty inconvenient. Some companies in the music production industry already ship out products on external hard-drives. Blu-ray drives will need to halve in price before uptake increases significantly, though they're creeping into the justifiable range.
