Before I got rid of my PS3 for an un-related reason, the drive broke. When I took it into sony to get it sent away to be fixed, they were pretty adamant about asking if I had used it to watch alot of movies continuously.

The tech guys said that its because the games sample every once in awhile when data is needed. Otherwise they dont do anything. A movie continuously plays, all the time sampling, which its not technically designed for.

I dont know what kinda substance this has, but it seems logical - which would explain the price gap between the PS3 and a stand-alone player.

But I still think the price of any HD format disc is far to expensive for the average consumer.
